Nzuri Uhai Foundation is a women-focused non-profit empowering young girls and women to break free from fear, societal pressures, and self-doubt.

We are on a mission to ignite confidence, nurture purpose, and equip the next generation of female leaders through mentorship, education, and transformational development.

Nzuri means “Beautiful” and Uhai means “Life” in Swahili. We exist to empower women and girls in Ghana, to live beautiful lives. This mission was born when our Founder, Dionne Akom Tweneboah, whilst interning in Kumasi, met a woman who was extremely distraught because her husband’s brother had defiled her daughter.

She came in to seek legal advice. The following day she called and said she wanted to drop all the charges. We asked her to come into the office, and when she came, she told us her husband had threatened to throw her and her other five children out of the house, leaving them destitute and homeless.

She was willing to let the perpetrator go because she could not afford to take care of herself and her children. At that moment, Dionne was enraged, this extreme degree of anger kindled a fire in her to help women and girls earn a living, and become financially independent, that was the inception of the foundation.

The Nzuri Uhai Foundation has a story to tell — a story of empowering women, a story of transforming the lives of females, a story of eliminating poverty, improving gender equality, and ensuring quality education in Ghana.
